The short version
- Your journal is stored on your phone. We never receive it.
- There is no account to create and no sign-in to Journal itself.
- Calendar passwords stay in your phone’s secure storage.
- Apple or Google handle payments. We never see your card.
- No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
What stays on your phone
Everything you write in Journal — priorities, to-dos, schedule, wake and bed times, meals, workouts, water, notes, ideas, affirmations and gratitude — is stored in a database on your phone. Journal has no user accounts and no servers that receive your entries. We cannot see, read or recover them.
If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or Google, those backups may include Journal’s data, under Apple’s or Google’s privacy terms.
Calendars
With your permission, Journal reads the calendars already on your phone (for example Google or Outlook) to show events in your schedule, and adds events you create to the calendar you choose. This happens on your phone.
If you connect an iCloud or other CalDAV calendar inside Journal, your phone connects directly to that calendar provider. Your app-specific password is kept in your phone’s secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore). It is never sent to us. Event details are copied to your phone so your schedule works offline.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Journal does not use a push notification service, so no reminder content passes through our servers or anyone else’s.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions ($4.99 a month or $49.99 a year) are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play. They handle your payment details under their own privacy policies. The app only learns whether your subscription is active. We never see your card details. To track the 7-day free access period, the app stores the date you first opened it on your phone.
The website and support form
If you contact us through the support form, we receive your name, email address, topic, phone type, app version (if you give it) and message, and use them only to answer you. The message is delivered to our support inbox by email through our email delivery provider, and kept for up to 12 months after your question is resolved, then deleted.
getjournal.app does not use analytics or advertising cookies. Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse, and keeps these logs for a short period.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your personal information.
- Show ads in the app or share data with advertisers.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
- Read your journal entries or calendar events.
Exporting and deleting your data
You can export your whole journal at any time from Settings › Your data › Export journal. Deleting the app deletes your journal and any calendar passwords stored by Journal. To remove a calendar account without deleting the app, go to Settings › Calendars. To ask us to delete your support messages, contact us.
Children
Journal is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of personal information we hold about you, and to object to how we use it. Because your journal stays on your phone, the only personal information we usually hold is what you send us through the support form. Contact us to use any of these rights; we will reply within the time the law requires. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If a change affects how your data is handled, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
